Mitsui & Co. introduced its new medium-term management plan in 2017, setting out four key initiatives for 2020, including (1) building the profit basis and strengthening existing business; (2) establishing new growth areas; (3) deepening cash flow management and strengthening the financial basis; and (4) enhancing governance, human resources, and innovation capabilities. Toru Matsui, General Manager of the Corporate Planning & Strategy division, explains that initiative 4 is the foundation for implementing initiatives 1 through 3, and is based on the two pillars of “work-style innovation” and “digital transformation.”
